Osteoarthritis Related Problems

  1. Thumb first CMC (carpo-metacarpal) arthritis is a very common disabling condition of the base of the thumb. The most common procedure for this condition is a trapeziectomy (excision of trapezium bone) with ligament reconstruction.
  2. Multiple procedures are performed for wrist arthritis from excision of arthritic joints/bones to joint replacements.
  3. Arthritis of the last joint of the finger is commonly associated with small cysts or bumps on the nail side of the finger. Dr van der Spuy treats these conditions with excision of the mucoid cysts with a clean up of the painful joint.
  4. Arthritis in the proximal interphalangeal joint is commonly treated with small joint replacements.
